Whole Child Approach to Education

The principles that drive me as an educator revolve around teaching the whole child, not simply academics. If a student thinks they are smart, they will perform better. An example of this is when I give assessments, I get excited and tell the student they get to show me how smart they are, and I can’t wait to see all of their hard work. Forming close relationships with students is critical to both the learning process and students’ social-emotional development. Before setting goals, I take the first session to get to know the students and how they interact with me. Next, I administer a comprehensive diagnostic test to pinpoint their areas of success and their challenges. I then use the information to personalize a plan for each child tailored to their specific needs. Teaching is my life passion, and I hope to impact every student positively with love and understanding.

My purpose as a teacher is to instill joy and a safe place for students to learn, grow, and sometimes fail. Most children would agree that school is boring, but as an educator, I aim to instill joy into learning whenever possible. My philosophy is if I am having fun, the kids will have fun. I cultivate joy in my sessions by connecting with students on a cultural level.
